History of Lake Powell

Lake Powell is a reservoir on the Colorado River, straddling the border between Utah and Arizona (most of it, along with Rainbow Bridge, is in Utah). It is the second largest man-made reservoir in the United States behind Lake Mead, storing 24,322,000 acre feet (30 km³) of water when full. Lake Powell was created by the flooding of Glen Canyon by the controversial Glen Canyon Dam, which also led to the creation of Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, a popular summer destination. The reservoir is named for explorer John Wesley Powell, a one-armed American Civil War veteran who explored the river via three wooden boats in 1869. In 1972, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area was established. It is public land managed by the National Park Service, and available to the public for recreational purposes.

Lake Powell is a storage facility for the Upper Basin states of the Colorado River Compact (Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, and New Mexico). The Compact specifies that the Upper Basin states are to provide a minimum annual flow of 8.23 million acre feet (10 km³) to the Lower Basin states (Arizona, Nevada, and California).

Houseboating ( as pictured above, on Lone Rock Beach,) is a very popular activity. Along with jet skiing, wakeboarding, wakesurfing, water skiing, tubing, and swimming. Lake Powell is the summer vacation destination for many across the United States and around the world.

There are three popular marinas many choose to launch their boats or jet skis from. Toyitup Rentals delivers to all marinas and even the not so popular ones.

Wah Weap Marina borders on the Utah, Arizona state lines. It is by far the most built up marina with a lot of amenities and Page, AZ is only 4 miles down the road for anything you may have forgotten. Boat rentals and Jet Ski or PWC rentals can be made through Toyitup Rentals for better rates than those over-priced places closer to the lake. Wah Weap offers the best weather year round. It is a popular place to go for people coming from California, New Mexico, Texas, Nevada, Arizona and Utah.

Bullfrog Marina is located near Ticaboo (or Hanksville, UT.) Somewhat in the middle of nowhere an oasis is found with Bullfrog Marina offers a more of a secluded feeling. There are a few amenities, restuarants, and small shops found on the national park, but are extremely seasonal. Bullfrog is a very popular spot for those coming from Montana, Idaho, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, and other states that are close by.

Antelope Point Marina  is located in Utah north of Page, AZ, it is only accessible by driving through Arizona. It's also know as "The Point" to many who often vacation there. They have a full range of services, and it is not as large as Bullfrog or Wah Weap Marinas', but does offer a smaller more comfy feel. Antelope Point Marina is definately the nicest of all the Marinas, Toyitup Rentals delivers to Antelope Point.
